Bargain Hunting Basics
We can’t get enough of the thrill that accompanies bargain hunting for a really great deal on a killer piece of clothing. That’s why you can find us scouring discount stores and clearance sections whenever we have some extra cash. And while we know it’s not practical to buy every single thing you need on the cheap, there are just some items we always buy on sale.
Check out the four types of clothes we never break the bank when buying:
The Latest Trends
When we suspect that a style won’t be sticking around for too many seasons — think crop tops, wedge sneakers and high-low hemlines — but we absolutely HAVE to make it an addition to our wardrobes, we always shop the sales and low priced stores. Why spend a ton of money on something you’ll only wear for a few months? Trendy items After lusting after high waisted shorts for what felt like forever, but was in actuality like two weeks, I scored two killer embellished pairs on clearance at Urban Outfitters for just 10 bucks each! For me, it’s always worth the wait to discover low-cost high-style finds, and trendy items are often the first to be discounted, so stay on the lookout and you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for.
When it comes to fashion buying something in season actually means buying it a few months before the season really arrives. So most summer styles go on sale in the middle of spring, and winter wear hits the shelves while the leaves are still changing colors. This is actually a total help for bargain shoppers because stores tend to have their huge sales right smack dab in the middle of the season allowing us to pick up what we need for a season while it’s still going on. That means right now is the perfect time to pick up a few new swimsuits (who really wants to pay 70 bucks for such a small amount of fabric anyway?) and just after New Years is the ideal time to buy high quality winter coats at a decent price.
When we know we have a big event coming up, like a wedding or gala (okay we have never actually been invited to a gala, but us primpers can dream can’t we?) or graduation, we love to pick out a fancy-pants new outfit. What we don’t usually love? The high price tags that accompany most of those cute little cocktail dresses. So instead of waiting for the week before an upscale event to try to track down a moderately priced, yet still super special frock, we periodically check out sale sections and low-cost online stores for some pretty pieces that we can keep on hand for a black tie occasion.
We love the extra boost of confidence that cute workout clothes give us when we hit the gym, but we’ve never been too keen on spending a ton of money on pieces we’ll inevitably be filling with our sweat. Yep, hate to break it to you guys but even the beauty and fashion obsessed primpers are subject to sweating when we’re up in the gym working on our fitness. So instead of shelling out upwards of 100 dollars for designer yoga pants (sorry lululemon, we think you’re cute but we’re just not right for each other), we prefer to hit fast fashion shops like Forever21 and the clearance sections at sporting goods stores for our sweats.
